JD advises on the designing, drafting and implementation of all types of equity (EMI, CSOP, SIP, SAYE, growth shares and jointly owned share plans, carried and co-investment schemes) and non-equity based management and employee incentives (including the operation of employee benefit trusts), mainly in the unquoted (including AIM) arena and often with an international dimension.
JD also advises on structuring private equity funds, employment and employment related securities taxation (including internationally mobile and non-domiciled employees), partnership taxation and entrepreneurial business (including EIS and SEIS).
JD started his career at SJ Berwin where he remained as an associate in the tax team workeing very closely with both the private equity funds and deals teams in the corporate department until 2008. JD then worked at Deloitte until 2013 restructuring carried interests, providing taxation advice to management teams on buy outs and exits and implementing incentive arrangements on the acquisition of investee companies.
JD has since been a tax consultant and held a number of roles including a role employed as a Managing Associate with Addleshaw Goddard in their employee incentives team.
JD joined Avery Law in 2020.
